Collaboration Kickoff: National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day with Heritage Humane Society

In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30th, the DSJ is teaming up with Heritage Humane Society to celebrate the day’s main objective: the adoption of available shelter animals! Each week until April 30th, we will promote adoptable shelter pets at Heritage Humane Society on our social media handle and website.


What is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day?

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day occurs annually on April 30th and celebrates the initiative of adopting pets from local animal shelters. This special day promotes the importance of saving the lives of shelter animals in need and the practice of adopt, don’t shop.


Heritage Humane Society

Heritage Humane Society is a Williamsburg local animal shelter that operates on an open-admission basis that aims to be compassionate caretakers working to facilitate stray/surrender animals to their forever, loving homes. In addition, Heritage Humane Society strives to teach humane animal treatment to the public, be animal welfare supporters while offering economical adoption and spay/neuter services to decrease unwanted companion animal overpopulation.


Current Adoption Process at Heritage Humane Society

To start the adoption process, Heritage Humane Society requires all interested adopters to contact the Adoption Team either by phone (757-221-0150 ext:0) or by email (adopt@heritagehumanesociety.org) to schedule an appointment in advance to meet adoptable shelter pets.
